Growing up I struggled with being one of the few members of my family that were of a lighter skin tone and for many years couldn't find people on television and movies who looked like me. So discovering women such as Dorothy Dandridge was wonderful for me! I appreciate all of her talents and hard work but most of all I appreciate her courage. Although she made it look effortless it took a lot of courage to be a Black actress in her heyday staring in movies like Carmen Jones and Porgy and Bess

Not only was she beautiful and talented she was also stylish! I have always had a love for old Hollywood glamour, and how effortless the famed dames made being glamorous look. Dorothy mastered making her beauty and style appear effortless, she embodied glamour even dressed in peddle pushers and a tank she was as graceful as if she was in a ball gown. Here are a few photos I love that show her style and a short bio video!

Dorothy's story is just one of many pioneers in Black entertainment who paved the way for our community which I plan on covering here on Eclectic Elitist in my Tribute to Greatness section. When I started this blog I wanted to make sure that I not only talked about what I loved in a Fashion sense but all the things I loved and how they helped make me the woman I am today and one major thing is my love of my culture and it's history. In the Tribute to Greatness section I will be highlighting those throughout history who have an impact on my life personally and/or through literature, music and movies. I hope you guys enjoy this section as much as I do.
